President and Chief Executive Officer
Steve Ritchie was appointed to the Board in February 2019. He was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer in December 2017, served as President and Chief Operating Officer from July 2015 to December 2017, served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer from May 2014 to July 2015 and served as a Senior Vice President since 2010 (promoted in December 2010 to SVP, Corporate OPS and Global OST). Mr. Ritchie has served in various capacities of increasing responsibility over Global Operations & Global Operations Support and Training since July 2010. Since 2006, he also has served as a franchise owner and operator of multiple units in the Company's Midwest Division.
Chief People Officer
Marvin Boakye was appointed as Papa John’s first Chief People Officer in January 2019. Mr. Boakye joins Papa John’s after serving as vice president of human resources at petroleum company Andeavor in San Antonio, Texas, which was recently acquired by Marathon Petroleum, from March 2017 to January 2019. Prior to Andeavor, he was Chief Human Resources Officer for MTS Allstream, a telecommunications company now part of Bell Canada from June 2015 to March 2017. Prior to that, Mr. Boakye held senior human resources positions at Goodyear, Pulte Group and The Home Depot. Mr. Boakye has more than 20 years of human resources experience, as well as expertise in change management and culture transformation. He has held human resources leadership roles for organizations across the United States, Canada and Latin America.
Senior Vice President, Chief Legal & Risk Officer
Caroline Miller Oyler was appointed Senior Vice President, Chief Legal & Risk Officer in October 2018. Ms. Oyler previously served as Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer from May 2018 to October 2018 and Senior Vice President, General Counsel from May 2014 to May 2018. Additionally, Ms. Oyler served as Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs from November 2012 to May 2014 and as Vice President and Senior Counsel since joining the Company’s legal department in 1999. She also served as interim head of Human Resources from December 2008 to September 2009. Prior to joining Papa John’s, Ms. Oyler practiced law with the firm Wyatt, Tarrant and Combs LLP.
Executive Vice President, Chief Operating & Growth Officer
Michael R. Nettles was appointed Executive Vice President, Chief Operating & Growth Officer in October 2018 after serving as Senior Vice President, Chief Information and Digital Officer since February 2017. Mr. Nettles joined Papa John’s after four years with Panera Bread serving as Vice President, Architecture and Information Technology Strategy. Prior to Panera, Mr. Nettles served as Vice President of Tag Solutions for Goji Food Solutions from April 2011 until July of 2012 and concurrently as Founder and President of Red Chair Ventures, a foodservice technology solutions provider from January 2009 until July of 2012.
Senior Vice President, Chief Restaurant Operations Officer
Jim Norberg was appointed Chief Restaurant Operations Officer in July 2019. Mr. Norberg, a Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) industry veteran, spent more than 30 years of his career at McDonald’s. His most recent role was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, where he managed operations for 14,000 U.S. restaurants. After his long tenure at McDonald’s, Norberg has served as an independent strategic advisor to organizations in the restaurant, hospitality, entertainment and consumer goods industry.
Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer
Joseph H. Smith was appointed to Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer in April 2018 after serving as the Company’s Senior Vice President, Global Sales and Development from 2016 to April 2018 and as Vice President, Global Sales and Development from 2010 to 2016. Mr. Smith served as Vice President of Corporate Finance from 2005 to 2010 and as Senior Director of Corporate Budgeting and Finance from 2000 to 2005. Prior to joining Papa John's, Mr. Smith served as Corporate Controller for United Catalysts, Inc. from 1998 to 2000. Mr. Smith began his career in public accounting in 1985 at Ernst & Young. Mr. Smith is a licensed Certified Public Accountant.
Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer – International
Jack H. Swaysland was appointed to Chief Operating Officer – International in May 2018 after serving as Senior Vice President, International since April 2016. Mr. Swaysland previously served as Vice President, International from April 2015 to April 2016, Regional Vice President, International from May 2013 to April 2015, and Vice President, International Operations from April 2010 to May 2013. Mr. Swaysland has served in various capacities of increasing responsibility in International Operations since joining the Company 11 years ago.
